Hospital Outpatient Department (HOPD) practices are considered part of a hospital, even if they are located offsite. These practices are licensed by Baptist Health and staffed by Baptist Health clinicians and team members, which means they operate under the hospital’s standards and federal regulations as hospital outpatient departments.

• Deliver coordinated, specialized care for complex health needs

• Maintain long-term access to essential medical services

While your care team and location will remain the same, there may be differences in how services are billed.

Patient Billing

Hospital outpatient departments must meet the same federal accreditation and quality standards as our hospitals. When you receive care at a Baptist Health hospital outpatient department, you are billed as if your visit occurred within the hospital itself.

You will receive a consolidated patient statement that outlines your financial responsibility for services provided at Baptist Health hospitals and outpatient locations. This means both hospital and physician charges may appear on the same bill.
Services such as lab tests, imaging, or other diagnostic procedures ordered by your provider are billed by the hospital and reflected on this same statement.

Certain professional services—such as emergency medicine, radiology, anesthesia, or pathology—may be billed separately if they are provided by independent physicians.

Insurance

Your out-of-pocket costs (including copays, deductibles, and coinsurance) may vary depending on your insurance plan and whether services are provided at a hospital outpatient department.

Because coverage differs by plan, we encourage you to contact your insurance provider before scheduling care to understand how your benefits apply.
For Medicare patients, coinsurance amounts may differ for hospital outpatient services compared to other care settings.
