Humidity and Aerosol Therapy

Humidity and aerosol therapy is a way to deliver medication to your lungs through a fine mist.

Most commonly, this type of therapy is performed with Albuterol. This medication relaxes your breathing tubes so they become larger, which makes your breathing easier and allows you to cough up secretions more effectively.

What You Need to Know

  • Place a mouthpiece in your mouth. Seal your lips around the mouthpiece.
  • Breathe as instructed by the therapist.
  • Do not breathe quickly or through your nose.
  • Treatment usually lasts between 5 and 10 minutes.
