Gartner has more than 15 years’ experience in surgical services as an operating room technician, scrub nurse and charge nurse, including seven years at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He served most recently as director of surgical services at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna, Tenn.
Prior to his healthcare career, Gartner worked in business accounting, management and sales in Effingham, Ill.
He has an associate degree in nursing from Lake Land College, bachelor’s degree in finance from Illinois State University and an MBA from University of Maine at Orono.
Gartner supervises the hospital surgical staff and coordinates anesthesia services with NorthStar’s three anesthesiologists and 23 nurse anesthetists. Nearly 200 people per week have surgery at Baptist Health, with about 50 surgeons in 15 specialties.
The department includes the area’s only bariatric surgery, Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology and da Vinci robotic surgery. Fifteen surgical suites include a hybrid suite and two open-heart rooms.
