Stephen J. Scannell

Vice President and Chief Investment Officer

Steve Scannell is vice president and chief investment officer for Baptist Health, responsible for cash management, short- and long-term investing, and debt financing duties for the system.

Scannell previously served as vice president of finance for Baptist Health and has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare.

Before joining Baptist Health in 2015, he was chief financial officer for McLaren Health Care Corp. in northern Michigan/Bay Region, where he was responsible for all financial matters. He spent 17 years at Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare in Louisville, serving in a number of financial leadership roles, most recently as vice president of finance and associate chief financial officer. He also has accounting experience with Ernst & Young, Humana, Crowe, Deloitte, and Jones, Nale & Mattingly.

A certified public accountant, Scannell has a master’s degree in nonprofit administration from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Bellarmine University. He is a fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association and is a past president of the Kentucky chapter. He has served on the board for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana, most recently as board president, and also served on the board for Trinity High School.
