Baptist Health Madisonville to host Camp Butterfly in September

Baptist Health Madisonville to host Camp Butterfly

Madisonville, KY. (August 8, 2018): Camp Butterfly will be held at the Welcome Center at Mahr Park on Saturday, September 15.  Camp Butterfly is a free grief camp for any child in the community ages six through 12 that have experienced the death of a loved one.

During camp sessions the children will learn to cope with their feelings of grief in a positive way and will have fun with children that have experienced a similar loss.  There are activities planned and led by social workers and others that will teach the children how to effectively deal with their loss.

“We play games, spend time with our companion dogs and have a nice lunch all while teaching these children that they are going to be okay,” said Kellie Gipson, Volunteer Coordinator for Baptist Health Hospice.  “The favorite event of the day is always our memorial service that ends with the releasing of butterflies.  Parents are encouraged to attend the service which is open to the community,” added Gipson.

Registration and check-in begins at 9:30 am and camp will last until 2:30 pm.  The memorial service is scheduled to begin at 3 pm.  The Welcome Center at Mahr Park is located at 642 Nebo Road in Madisonville.
