ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Oct. 29, 2026) – The community is invited to attend Reducing the Risk, a free educational event designed to help parents and families better understand today's substance use risks and challenges, develop practical communication and decision-making skills, and connect with local support resources.

Reducing the Risk will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. The event, conducted by Baptist Health Hardin, will be held at the Performing Arts Center at John Hardin High School, 384 W.A. Jenkins Road, Elizabethtown. The public is welcome at this free event. No registration is required.

“While we may not be able to control the availability, increasing potency, or changing landscape of substances in our communities, we can take meaningful steps to reduce the risks facing our young people,” said Kim Medley, Community Health & Wellness outreach coordinator at Baptist Health Hardin.  “There are evidence-based prevention tools we can use as a community to strengthen protection.”

During the event, the audience can watch an overdose simulation; listen to a panel discussion with local law enforcement, emergency response teams and other community partners; engage in interactive activities; explore community resources; and learn more about substance use prevention, mental health, treatment and recovery.

The event is appropriate for high school and college students, parents, caregivers, educators and community members interested in supporting youth and strengthening community well-being.

Participants are encouraged to come ready to listen, learn and connect. Families can leave with practical tools, conversation strategies and local resources they can use long after the event ends.
