Baptist Health Lexington welcomes community to Breast Cancer Awareness Walk
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 17, 2026) — Breast cancer survivors, supporters and community members came together Saturday morning at Baptist Health Hamburg for Baptist Health Lexington’s Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.
The free event brought participants together to raise awareness about breast cancer, celebrate survivors, honor loved ones and show support for those affected by the disease.
Participants chose between a 1-mile or 2-mile walking route, joining together in a shared commitment to breast cancer awareness and the importance of early detection.
“Today is special because we have our community coming together to celebrate, to show their support, because we know how hard it is to have a diagnosis of cancer. It’s not an easy diagnosis, but with our support and with the community’s support, we can all make a difference,” said Walid Abou-Jaoude, MD, a breast surgeon at Baptist Health Lexington known to many of his patients as Dr. A.J.
Held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the walk also served as a reminder of the importance of regular screenings, understanding individual risk factors and taking an active role in breast health.
Breast cancer risk can be influenced by several factors, including family history, inherited genetic changes, age, hormonal factors and lifestyle. Knowing one’s family health history and discussing personal risk factors with a healthcare provider can help individuals make informed decisions about screening and prevention.
