Ostomy support group offers benefits to patients and caregivers
ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (May 10, 2024) – Baptist Health Hardin announces a new monthly ostomy support group to help patients and caregivers manage living with an ostomy.
The group will meet the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. ET. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 18. All meetings will be held in hospital’s auditorium.
“Living with an ostomy creates challenges that require some adjustments in everyday life,” said Kara Smith, MSN, RN, nursing director. “People living with an ostomy adapt to this new part of life uniquely and at different rates. An ostomy support group offers emotional support, provides opportunities to gain knowledge, and helps build confidence – all of which can promote an improved quality of life.”
The group will offer opportunities for education, guest speakers, and fellowship led by a team of experienced wound and ostomy nurses. Anyone living with an ostomy is invited to attend, along with their families and caregivers.
“We are so excited to offer a place where those living with an ostomy can share in their experiences and find a sense of community,” Smith added.
Programs will last approximately 60 minutes. Light refreshments will be served.
Participation is free and registration is not required.
Attendees should park in the parking garage and enter the main lobby through Entrance A. From the lobby, take Elevator A to the fifth floor and look for signs to the auditorium.
Meetings will be cancelled due to inclement weather if Hardin County School System is closed.
