Senior psychiatric services cater to the unique needs of our elderly population. We focus on the biological and psychosocial aspects of aging. The mind and body are intricately linked, and physical conditions can affect a person’s mind. We try to cater to the needs of this population.
The common presentations in elderly are depression, dementia and delirium. Any minor illness can affect their mental function, which can be easily treated. We try to cater to their needs in terms of groups, in terms of the environment we provide them, and there are certain needs in terms of fall precautions. They need more care versus our general adult psychiatric population.
Here at Baptist Health Corbin, we are lucky that we have a facility that can take care of both their physical needs, as well as their mental health needs. I feel we owe a debt of gratitude. All of us would not be here were it not for their contribution, their sacrifice, and their hard work. We need to do all we can to make their health as good as it can be, so they can live the rest of life in the best possible way.
