PADUCAH, KY (May 14, 2025) — Baptist Health Paducah is offering Safe Sitter babysitting classes for boys and girls, grades sixth through eighth, throughout the summer months of June and July.

The Safe Sitter program is designed to prepare students with the necessary skills to ensure their safety when they are home alone, caring for younger siblings or babysitting. Students will learn safety skills to prevent unsafe situations, childcare skills with tips to manage behavioral issues and life and business skills, such as how to discuss fees and how to greet employers.

The classes will be taught by registered nurses who are Certified Safe Sitter instructors, using engaging games and role-playing exercises.

“Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized initiative and teaches children various skills such as changing diapers, CPR, choking rescue for infants and children and what to do in weather emergencies,” said Leslie Knight, Baptist Health Paducah Mother-Baby and Pediatrics Clinical Educator. “It is a great program, and we are excited to offer such an amazing opportunity for middle school students in our community this summer.”

The one-day classes will be held at Baptist Health Paducah from 8 a.m. to noon on the following dates: June 3, June 20, July 23, July 1 and July 18. Due to limited availability, pre-registration is required. The cost of this class is $38 per student.
