Baptist Health Paducah now offering FDA Approved Trailblazing Mapping and Ablation System
PADUCAH, KY (Nov. 20, 2025) — Baptist Health Paducah continues to be a leader in providing innovative heart care in our region with the introduction of the FDA-approved Affera™ Mapping and Ablation System featuring the Sphere-9™ Catheter. This innovative technology combines mapping and ablation in a single catheter and uses dual-energy capability — pulsed field and radiofrequency — to treat persistent atrial fibrillation (AFib) and atrial flutter with greater precision and flexibility.
AFib is the most common heart rhythm disorder, affecting more than 60 million people worldwide. It occurs when the heart’s upper chambers beat irregularly, reducing the heart’s ability to pump blood efficiently. Left untreated, AFib can lead to serious complications, including heart failure, stroke, and increased mortality.
“The Affera system represents a major advancement in AFib care,” said Dr. Jacob Elrod, Electrophysiologist at Baptist Health Paducah. “By combining mapping and ablation in one tool and offering dual-energy options, we can tailor treatment to each patient’s unique needs, improving safety and outcomes.”
This new technology allows Baptist Health Paducah to expand its comprehensive approach to treating AFib, offering patients access to innovative therapies close to home. The Affera system is designed to streamline procedures, reduce risk, and improve quality of life for individuals living with heart rhythm disorders.
