Baptist Health Paducah wins Kentucky Hospital Association Quality Award
(PADUCAH, KY) April 3, 2024 - Baptist Health Paducah is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Kentucky Hospital Association Quality Award in the category for Acute Care Hospital (>250 beds). This recognition highlights the hospital's collaboration with West Kentucky Community & Technical College in designing a 3-D tactile educational tool to assist in community education and awareness on lung cancer.
Lung cancer is the number one diagnosed cancer in Kentucky and this new tool enhances patient education by providing a visual aid. This unique tool allows patients to physically feel the lung nodules, thereby increasing their understanding of screening criteria for early detection of cancer. Research has shown that patients find this tool highly impactful in comprehending the benefits of screening.
"The work that your hospital completed in the field of encouraging lung nodule screenings with the development and implementation of your 3D tool combined with the evidence of your commitment to quality innovation and leadership made selecting your organization for this award a clear choice,” said Casey Frankin, Director of Quality and Health Professions with Kentucky Hospital Association.
Baptist Health Paducah has been able to achieve its goals of diagnosing more patients in the early stages of lung cancer thanks to this innovative tool. Patients diagnosed in the early stages have many more treatment options available than if found at a later stage.
