Baptist Health Paducah breast ultrasound earns reaccreditation

Baptist Health Paducah. March 04, 2024
PADUCAH, KY (March 4, 2024) - Baptist Health Paducah has once again been recognized for its exceptional breast imaging care by achieving its three-year re-accreditation in breast ultrasound from the American College of Radiology (ACR). This prestigious award represents a gold standard that patients can trust.

Ultrasound breast imaging is a noninvasive medical test that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of the internal structures of the breast. This technique is particularly useful in examining breast changes, such as lumps, that can be felt, but not seen during a mammogram. This image can help radiologists determine if the lump is a cyst, or a mass that needs biopsied for cancer.

“As a radiologist fellowship trained in breast imaging, I am excited and proud that Baptist and Radiology Group of Paducah has been reaccredited with the American College of Radiology for breast ultrasound and ultrasound guided breast biopsy,” said board-certified and fellowship trained breast imaging radiologist, Allison Simons, MD. “We are also ACR accredited in mammography. These are important marks of excellence our patients can trust to know they are getting the best possible breast imaging and care.”

Baptist Health Imaging is a one-stop-shop that offers a wide range of comprehensive breast care services in one, convenient location. The facility is staffed with the only fellowship trained radiologist in the region, as well as local radiologists and patient navigators, ensuring women receive expert care throughout their breast health journey. Services provided include mammography, high-risk/genetic counseling, breast biopsy (including stereotactic and ultrasound-guided procedures), lymphedema therapy, breast surgery using the Trident-Specimen Radiograph, surgery reconstruction and medical and radiation oncology.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. Board-certified physicians and medical physicists, who are experts in the field, award the accreditation to facilities meeting ACR “Practice Parameters and Technical Standards” after a peer-review evaluation.

Baptist Health Paducah is proud to be a designated ACR Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center that has earned ACR accreditation in mammography, stereotactic biopsy, breast MRI and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound guided breast biopsy).

The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society dedicated to serving patients and society by empowering radiology professionals to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care. The College serves more than 37,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
