ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (Feb. 7, 2023) – Baptist Health Hardin and Encompass Health and Rehabilitation Hospital of Lakeview have partnered to host a new monthly stroke support group.

The group will meet the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. ET. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 14. All meetings will be held in the community room at Swope Toyota, 1085 N. Dixie Hwy., Elizabethtown.

“Stroke creates many physical and emotional challenges,” said Rosa Vittitoe, MSN, RN, SCRN, stroke coordinator for Baptist Health Hardin. “Each stroke survivor faces a unique set of circumstances, and each copes with them in his or her own way. However, the warmth, acceptance, and emotional support that a stroke support group offers can often be the key to uncovering the hidden strengths in many survivors.”

The group, designed to offer support for those in any stage of their journey with stroke, will offer education, guest speakers and fellowship. Anyone who has experienced a stroke is invited to attend, along with their families and caregivers.

According to the American Stroke Association, stroke survivors and their families need time and support in adjusting to life changes that result from stroke. Attending a support group can help families share and learn from one another in a supportive community setting.

“We are so excited to offer a place where stroke survivors and their caregivers can unite around their common experiences and find a sense of empowerment and community,” Vittitoe added.

Programs will last approximately 90 minutes. Light refreshments will be served.

Participation is free and registration is not required.

Meetings will be cancelled due to inclement weather if Hardin County School System is closed.
