Strawberry Hill imaging center receives ACR Lung Cancer Screening designation

The designation recognizes facilities that have committed to practice safe, effective diagnostic care for individuals at the highest risk for lung cancer.

(Paducah, Ky.) Jan. 10, 2022 — Baptist Health Paducah’s Strawberry Hill Imaging Center, has received the American College of Radiology (ACR) Lung Cancer Screening Designation. The ACR Lung Cancer Screening Center designation is a voluntary program recognizing facilities that have committed to practice safe, effective diagnostic care for individuals at the highest risk for lung cancer.  Low-dose CT screening for lung cancer, like mammograms, are annual exams for safely, efficiently and equitably saving thousands of lives each year.

This location is another resource for patients needing a Low-dose CT screening. Baptist Health Paducah’s Imaging Center on the hospital’s campus, received accreditation in 2014.

“This designation is vital for our community,” said Michael Tutor, executive director of heart, oncology and imaging services. “Low-dose CT screening has shown to be the only proven method to detect lung cancer at an early and treatable stage. We are thrilled to be part of this elite group, setting an example for responsible screening practices across the country, and to offer our patients another convenient location to receive these screenings.”

Lung cancer accounts for 25% of all cancers in comparison to breast, prostate and colon, and has the lowest 5-year survival rate.  Early detection is the key to better survival.  Low-dose CT screenings take less than 2 minutes and are covered by most insurance plans based on the following criteria:

  • 50 to 80 years old
  • 20-pack year history of smoking
  • Current or former smoker who has quit within the last 15 years
