(Paducah, Kentucky) August 8, 2022 -- Infants and young children may now get the COVID-19 vaccine from Baptist Health Medical Group.

In June, the Centers for Disease Control approved the vaccination for young children who are at least six-months old to under five-years old. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) also recommends the vaccine for children in this age group.

“Everyone knows COVID has not affected children like it has adults, but it is not a benign disease in kids,” said Baptist Health Medical Group pediatrician, Jeffrey Mudd, MD. “As of earlier this year, over 13 million children had been infected with COVID, leading to over 42,000 hospitalizations and 1,200 deaths. Kids can also have other consequences of COVID infections such as multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), inflammation of the heart (myocarditis) and an increased risk of developing diabetes. We at Baptist Health Medical Group – Pediatrics encourage you to call our office and schedule an appointment to begin the COVID-19 vaccine for your child.”

Pfizer-BioNTech is the manufacturer of the vaccine offered and it includes three doses. After the initial dose, the patient is able to receive the second dosage anywhere between 3-8 weeks later. The third dosage must be given 8 weeks after the second dose. There is no booster for this age group.

Along with the newest arrival of this vaccine for 6 months-4 years, BHMG Pediatrics continues to offer the vaccine to those ages 5-18.

Baptist Health Medical Group Pediatrics is located on Baptist Health Paducah’s main campus in Medical Park 3, Suite 501. To schedule an appointment for your child, call 270.443.7534.
