Ballard native joins Baptist Health Medical Group Primary Care in Paducah
(PADUCAH, KY) November 14 - J. Eric Fleming, MD, FHM, joins Baptist Health Medical Group Primary Care team to offer high quality internal medicine.
Dr. Fleming’s services range from well visits and disease prevention, to health maintenance and care for urgent conditions.
A Ballard County native, Dr. Fleming graduated from Ballard Memorial High School and went on to receive his medical degree, with distinction, at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He also conducted his Internal Medicine residency in Primary Care and Hospital Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. While there, he was named Primary Care chief resident.
Dr. Fleming earned his national board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine.
Although new in this position, Dr. Fleming is no stranger to Baptist Health Paducah. Before joining the primary care team, Fleming served in the roles of TeamHealth Hospitalist and Assistant Facility Medical Director. He is also an active member of the Baptist Health Paducah chest pain team, resuscitation team and sepsis team.
“I was born at Baptist Health Paducah and was raised in this area,” said Fleming. “It was very important to me to come back to the area in which I was raised, and I wanted to come back home and provide quality and efficient patient care. I enjoyed taking care of patients in the hospital, but I would like to work towards preventing people from ever needing to go to the hospital.”
Dr. Fleming knows firsthand the importance of establishing a relationship with a primary care provider. “Many things that I would see in my years of being a hospitalist, if patients had routinely seen a primary care doctor and been adherent to treatment, could have potentially been prevented,” said Fleming. “There are so many health conditions that with proper screening and maintenance can prevent downstream consequences.”
