National distinction recognizes achievements in protecting patients from harm and error.

RICHMOND, KENTUCKY (November 10, 2021) – Baptist Health Richmond received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2021. This national distinction recognizes Baptist Health Richmond’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and error in the hospital.

“This is our third consecutive “A” and I have never been more proud of our team,” said Greg D. Gerard, Baptist Health Richmond President. “To achieve this during the most challenging times our organization has ever faced is remarkable.  It is confirmation of our steadfast commitment to caring and in providing a safe experience for our patients.”

Baptist Health Richmond is one of three system hospitals which received the top rating for the fall grading period. Also receiving an A: Baptist Health Lexington and Baptist Health Paducah.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of Baptist Health Richmond for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”
