30-year tradition of excellence improves patients' quality of life

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – Hardin Memorial Health’s (HMH) cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program has earned the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) certification. AACVPR recognizes programs nationally for their commitment to enhancing standards of care and improving patient quality of life.

AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other professional societies. AACVPR-certified programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available.

HMH’s Director of Critical Care and Cardiovascular Services Jamie Wilkerson said HMH’s program has a 30-year reputation of excellence.

“This certification is a testament to the hard work and dedication the HMH team puts into taking care of patients,” said Wilkerson. “Everything we do centers around helping patients recover faster and improve their quality of life.”

The program is available to individuals with cardiovascular health issues, including heart attack or coronary artery bypass patients as well as those with pulmonary health problems like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The program includes exercise, education, counseling and support for patients and their families.

Jana Wright, HMH’s Manager of Cardiovascular Services, said the team is thrilled with the recognition. She described the incredibly strong bonds HMH staff form with the patients for whom they care.

“At HMH’s Cardiopulmonary Rehab, our patients are like family,” said Wright. “Week in and week out, we see our patients work hard to improve their health.”

Brandon Beard, a Cardiopulmonary Rehab patient, credits the program with helping get his health back on track following a cardiac arrest in November 2016. Beard completes weekly Cardiopulmonary Rehab sessions.

“I am a lucky man,” Beard said. “If it weren’t for HMH saving my life in November and the rehab staff helping me establish and maintain a healthy routine, I wouldn’t be here,” said Beard.

AACVPR Program Certification is valid for three years.
