- [Katelyn] Here at Baptist Health Richmond,
we believe that mental health is equally as important

as physical health.

Our mission is we want folks to thrive and be their
best self, not just survive.

It takes not just the therapist by themself,
it takes a therapist, a clinician, a crisis counselor,

peer support, and targeted case management.

- [Crystal] I took the peer support specialist
certification because I know what it's like to meet

someone that understands.

And I want to be a beacon of hope for those out there
suffering with addiction,

and let them to know that there is this whole community
out here to support people in recovery.

- A peer support specialist is someone with lived
experience that has a different level of empathy that

connects with folks in a
very powerful and passionate way.

- It's that connection of,
"I've been exactly where you've been.

Let me show you the way I've recovered,"

and show them what worked for me, you know,
and maybe encourage them to get the help or treatment

that they need.

I'm so grateful to be a part of the team here at
Baptist Health because they truly care.

I have seen them work very hard to loop people into all
the services that they can get them.

And they're very genuine people,
and I'm grateful to be a part of the team here.
