3 New COVID-19 Symptoms You Need to Know

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently added three new symptoms to its ongoing list for COVID-19.

The new symptoms include congestion or runny nose; nausea or vomiting; and diarrhea and join a list of growing symptoms that can range from mild to severe.

At the onset of the pandemic, fever, cough, and shortness of breath were the most commonly reported symptoms of COVID-19. In April, the CDC added six additional symptoms to the list including muscle pain, sore throat, and loss of taste and smell.

Symptoms of COVID-19 can appear between 2-14 days after exposure to the virus and can include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

“This list does not include all possible symptoms. CDC will continue to update this list as we learn more about COVID-19,” per the CDC.

While anyone can experience mild to severe symptoms, older adults and people who have underlying medical conditions seem to be at higher risk for developing more severe cases of COVID-19.
