Baptist Health Paducah. December 02, 2025

PADUCAH, KY (Dec. 4, 2025) — Erin Gottman, APRN-MSCP, Baptist Health Medical Group Family Medicine, was recently awarded the distinction of Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP). She completed the Menopause Society’s competency exam which sets clinical standards for menopause practice and assists women in locating clinicians who provide optimal menopause-related healthcare.

Gottman is one of two providers in our area to receive this credential and is excited to provide support for women who are entering or are currently experiencing menopause.

“I'm grateful to be working in a supportive environment that encourages their providers to expand our knowledge so we can provide better care to our patients,” added Gottman.

Menopause begins when a woman has gone twelve consecutive months without a menstrual period. It’s a natural process that occurs when the ovaries stop producing reproductive hormones. Menopause typically begins between the ages of 45 and 55. Historically, “the change” is not a widely discussed topic among women, however, recently more women are seeking how to better understand menopause and manage their symptoms.

There are several common symptoms a woman might experience during menopause:

  • Irregular or skipped menstrual periods
  • Fatigue
  • Hot flashes
  • Headaches
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Muscle pain and joint aches
  • Changes in sex drive
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Bladder control problems

Not everyone will have the same symptoms as they transition to menopause. Symptoms of menopause can be addressed with several treatment options including lifestyle changes, hormone replacement therapy, medications like antidepressants and health screenings to monitor and manage symptoms.

Gottman says women have been seeking her out for care via the Menopause Society’s website.

“I really love my work in primary care, and taking care of so many women in mid-life is a big part of that,” said Gottman.
