  • Care innovations: We can perform many complex gynecologic procedures on an outpatient basis. Providers at some Baptist Health locations use minimally invasive da Vinci surgical technology, which often leads to a quicker recovery and less pain for patients. Baptist Health women’s care center  locations offer a wide range of diagnostic, treatment and support services for breast cancer patients.
  • Enhanced facilities: Our facilities are designed with women’s health needs in mind. This includes Lexington’s newly built Women’s Care Unit and the newly renovated La Grange Women’s Center that includes an upgraded Mother & Baby unit.
  • Expansive preventive services: Baptist Health helps women get or stay healthy with screenings and services designed to prevent disease or detect it in early stages. These include:
  • Small communities, big care: Each of our locations has a special connection to its community. We’ve been here for several decades — and many of our women's care staff and gynecologists have been with us just as long. We treat every patient like family. Regardless of where you live in our Kentucky or Southern Indiana service areas, you’ll receive the care that you deserve as a member of a shared community.

FAQ

What's the Difference Between Primary Care and Women's Health?

Primary care is a comprehensive approach to healthcare, emphasizing wellness checkups, illness avoidance, and the long-term management of chronic medical conditions. It is not limited to a single demographic slice of society. Women’s health focuses primarily though not exclusively on the reproductive health of adolescent and adult women, including pregnancy, sexual health, and diseases of the reproductive organs. Women’s health can also include gynecological services for prepubescent girls.

What Type of Doctor Is Best for Women's Health?

Because women’s health focuses on reproductive and sexual wellness, an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) is often the best choice as a women’s health physician. OB-GYNs specialize in evaluating and treating medical conditions of the female reproductive organs and are therefore a logical choice when selecting a provider for women’s health.

Is Women's Health the Same as OB/GYN?

There is considerable overlap between women’s health and obstetrical-gynecological care, but they are not identical. OB-GYN focuses specifically on medical conditions of the female reproductive organs and related sexual behaviors. Women’s health expands that approach to broader areas of concern only indirectly related to sexual and reproductive issues (for example, breast cancer avoidance).

What Is a Women's Health Program?

A women’s health program is any medical initiative designed primarily to benefit female health through any or all stages of life, from prepubescent girls to adolescent and adult women. This may include a variety of services, from preventive care, such as regular mammograms, to obstetric and gynecological care related to reproductive health, sexual activity, and pregnancy.
