Baptist Health Paducah offers free community classes for expecting, new parents

(PADUCAH, KY) March 25, 2024 - Welcoming a baby into the world is an exciting time, but it can also bring about anxiety, stress and feelings of being overwhelmed. To support individuals on their journey to becoming parents, Baptist Health Paducah is pleased to offer free childbirth and breastfeeding classes.

The goal of these classes is to educate, build confidence and provide support to parents. Additionally, the classes aim to build a sense of community where parents can connect with others who are in the same stage of life. Led by Baptist Health Paducah experts, including International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, Kim Coram, and clinical educators Martha Veatch and Cindy Walker, these interactive classes provide valuable information and hands-on practice.

During Childbirth classes, expectant parents have the opportunity to learn about the childbirth process by touring mom/baby rooms and Labor/Delivery. Educators explain visitor policies, what to expect once admitted, what the varying equipment is for and answer any questions to help parents feel more confident and prepared for their delivery. 

For women who breastfeed, or plan to breastfeed, Coram leads a Breastfeeding Matters class and Kangaroo Club. Breastfeeding Matters serves as an interactive preparation class that covers the basics of what to expect including feeding positions, using a breast pump, returning to work and other related topics. Kangaroo Club is a support group for breastfeeding moms that provides moms with a safe space to share experiences, voice concerns and encourage one another in their breastfeeding journey.

Classes are held at Baptist Health Paducah on the second floor of Medical Park 2 in the Zimmerman NICU Education Room. Here is a list of classes happening during April:

  • Breastfeeding Matters: Tuesday, April 2, 6-8 p.m. & Wednesday, April 10, noon-1 p.m.
  • Childbirth Class: Tuesday, April 9, 5-7 p.m. & Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. – noon
  • Kangaroo Club Breastfeeding Support Group: April 11, 1-2:30 p.m.

Childbirth and breastfeeding can be challenging processes, and having reliable resources, advice and support can be a game-changer. Classes are free to attend and registration can be done online at Baptist Health Paducah Events & Classes.
