(Paducah, Ky.)  May 27, 2020 Baptist Health Paducah received two breast-imaging honors this month – a three-year accreditation in breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and designation as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. Both honors were awarded by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. MRI of the breast provides valuable information about many breast conditions that other imaging modalities, such as mammography or ultrasound, may not obtain.

Board-certified physicians and medical physicists, who are experts in the field, award the accreditation to facilities meeting ACR “Practice Parameters and Technical Standards” after a peer-review evaluation.

By awarding the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation, the ACR recognizes breast-imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).

Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, determined that Baptist Health Paducah has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society dedicated to serving patients and society by empowering radiology professionals to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care. The College serves more than 37,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
