― You've covered the outlets, checked toys for loose parts, added safety latches to the cabinets and read and reread the car seat manuals to ensure proper installation. When it comes to your child, you can never be too safe. Now parents have a new local resource to learn a lifesaving skill through Baptist Health La Grange Infant and Child CPR class. The first class is on March 15 from 7-9 p.m. at the Oldham County EMS Training Center located at 1101 New Moody Lane.

You’ve covered the outlets, checked toys for loose parts, added safety latches to the cabinets and read and reread the car seat manuals to ensure proper installation.

“We did a search of local resources and realized that Infant and Child CPR training was not readily available in Oldham County,” said Gretchen Webb, MSN, RN, director of Inpatient Nursing, Baptist Health La Grange. “As the community’s hospital, we knew we needed to find a way to bring this offering to Oldham County for not only our new parents, but for grandparents, babysitters or anyone who wanted to learn how to properly perform CPR on infants and children under the age of eight.”

The Infant and Child CPR program uses the American Heart Association’s Family & Friends® CPR course curriculum in a group environment that allows for hands-on practice for those individuals who want to learn CPR but do not need to be certified. During the course, participants will learn how to identify when to use CPR, safety concerns for infants and children, and techniques for CPR and relief of choking.

The course fee is $15 per person, which covers the cost of materials. Scholarships are available based on financial need. To pre-register online, visit BaptistHealthLaGrange.com. For more information, call 502.222.3627.
