WHAS Crusade for Children Awards $90,000 Gift to HMH Foundation

Funds to purchase NICU and pediatric therapy equipment

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – WHAS Crusade for Children has awarded Hardin Memorial Health Foundation (HMHF) a $90,000 grant to purchase equipment for the Hardin Memorial Health (HMH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the only Level II NICU in the 10-county region that HMH serves, and pediatric therapy equipment.

The grant will be used to upgrade fetal monitoring technology and purchase a neonatal resuscitation simulator for the NICU. A portion of the grant will also purchase equipment to dramatically improve speech and therapy services for pediatric patients with neurological conditions such as ADHD, Autism, Cerebral Palsy and language learning disability. 

According to Tracee Troutt, Chief Development Officer, the WHAS Crusade for Children has awarded Hardin Memorial Health $752,101 since 2002, including $346,000 to help renovate and equip the HMH Level II NICU and renovate HMH BirthPlace labor and delivery rooms and family waiting room.

HMHF Chairman Joe Prather expressed his gratitude. “The WHAS Crusade for Children’s significance to our region cannot be overstated,” said Prather. “From our NICU to pediatric therapy to sports medicine services, the Crusade makes a big difference in the lives of Central Kentucky children.”

WHAS Crusade for Children President and CEO Dawn Lee touted the long-standing partnership with HMHF and HMH.

“The region served by Hardin Memorial Health is so supportive of WHAS Crusade for Children,” said Lee. “We’re thrilled to continue to invest in HMH’s plans to provide the best care to kids with special needs.” 

Lee also praised the local firefighters who help collect money each year during the Crusade’s annual campaign and she thanked the countless members of the community who contribute.
