Local Baptist Health Home Care agency makes ‘Elite’ list

Madisonville, KY (December 1, 2017) – Baptist Health Home Care Madisonville is one of 2,268 top-performing home care agencies in the nation named to the 2017 HomeCare Elite® list.

Some 9,064 home care agencies were considered for the program administered by the ABILITY Network in partnership with Decision Health. HomeCare Elite uses public data to perform a comprehensive analysis of all home health care agencies and evaluate their overall performance. The program uses proprietary methods to identify the top 25 percent of all Medicare-certified home health care agencies, as well as the nation’s top 100 and top 500 agencies.

“Our agency began over 50 years ago by doctors and nurses from Hopkins County Hospital that saw a need to bring quality healthcare to their neighbors confined to the home. The agency evolved and now covers not only Hopkins County but the surrounding 11 counties in the region,” said Belinda Hill, director of Baptist Health Home Care Madisonville.  “Many of our staff members have been with the agency for 15+ years and this honor recognizes them and their knowledge and commitment to continue caring for their community,” added Hill.

“It is quite an honor for a smaller agency such as ours,” said Robert Ramey, president of Baptist Health Madisonville.  “It is proof that high quality home care can be found right in your hometown.”

HomeCare Elite agencies are determined by an analysis of performance measures in quality outcomes, best practices implementation, patient experience (HHCAHPS), quality improvement and consistency, and financial health. To be considered, an agency must be Medicare-certified and have data for at least three outcome measures in Home Health Compare – a program created by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to provide the public with information about the quality of care provided by Medicare-certified home health agencies.

“The 2017 HomeCare Elite agencies have demonstrated – in a quantifiable way – success in providing the best possible home health care in their communities,” said Bud Meadows, chief revenue officer for ABILITY. “Recognizing these outstanding home health providers is an honor. They represent the absolute best in this profession, delivering the highest quality of care.”

“Research has shown that recovery can be faster at home, particularly if there is access to good quality skilled home healthcare,” Hill said. “In some cases, home care can be substituted for other forms of inpatient care, such as hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities.”

Home healthcare may be covered by Medicare or Medicaid if the patient meets the qualifications for these programs. Private insurance, private pay, and worker’s compensation are other sources of coverage for home healthcare services.
