HMH opens on-site pharmacy at Bardstown Medical Plaza

Hardin Memorial Health (HMH) opened a retail pharmacy today in the Bardstown Medical Plaza

BARDSTOWN, Ky., Nov. 1, 2019 –Hardin Memorial Health (HMH) opened a retail pharmacy today in the Bardstown Medical Plaza, located at 3615 E. John Rowan Blvd. This is HMH’s second retail pharmacy and the first in Nelson County.

The in-clinic, retail pharmacy gives HMH patients access to prescriptions following visits at HMH’s Bardstown Family Medical Center or HMH’s Specialty Clinic. Patients also have the option to transfer prescriptions from other pharmacies and providers.

According to HMH Bardstown Medical Plaza Pharmacy Manager Lauren Riney, PharmD, the benefits of an in-clinic pharmacy are important to overall patient care.

“Nonadherence to medical prescriptions is an issue across the country,” said Riney. “Providing a pharmacy for patients at the clinic makes it more convenient for them to not only fill, but also ask questions about their prescriptions.”

A 2012 study by the Annals of Internal Medicine found that 20 to 30 percent of prescription medications are never filled and approximately 50 percent of chronic disease medications are not taken as prescribed.

Bardstown Medical Plaza provides a single location for HMH care including lab and therapy services, an on-site radiologist and diagnostics including 3D mammography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Additionally, patients have access to medical specialties including cardiology, foot and ankle care, sports medicine, pediatric therapy, pulmonology and critical care, urology, general and vascular surgery, and ear, nose and throat.

“Growing services like pharmacy reiterates our commitment to Nelson and the surrounding counties,” said HMH Director of Pharmacy Jamie Lane. “The location on John Rowan Boulevard makes access easy for people in Marion, Washington and surrounding counties as well.”
