Baptist Health La Grange patients and staff will soon be able to have prescriptions filled onsite
The new pharmacy should be up and running September 14
La Grange, KY (Friday, August 28, 2020) – The hospital’s newest addition, a retail pharmacy, is being constructed on the ground floor adjacent to the inpatient pharmacy near the medical-surgical unit.
Angela Sandlin, Director of Pharmacy at Baptist Health La Grange, said the new pharmacy should be up and running September 14 with hours of operation being Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
One exciting service that will be offered by the new pharmacy is the Meds to Beds program. Through this program, medications will be delivered to the patient’s bedside prior to their discharge from the hospital with the option for pharmacist counseling on any new or changed medications.
Several studies have found these types of programs to be very impactful in helping prevent patients from having to be readmitted to the hospital by ensuring they have their medications. The hope, according to Sandlin, is that patients will find this as valuable as we know it will be. The retail pharmacy will also be filling prescriptions for employees and the public as well as providing select immunization services.
“For Baptist Health La Grange, the retail pharmacy is not just about convenience for our patients, it is also about improving the transition of care from hospital to home,” said Sandy Keith, Director of Quality at the hospital. “Bridging this gap is an essential piece in preventing readmissions and to ensure best patient outcomes.”
In addition to serving inpatient discharge needs, the retail pharmacy will be a convenient option for post-operative surgical patients and emergency department patients who want to grab their prescriptions on their way home without an additional stop at another pharmacy.
Employees will also be able to take advantage of the on-site pharmacy. Baptist Health La Grange employees who currently have their prescriptions filled at other pharmacies will soon have the option to have their medications transferred to the new on-site pharmacy once it is open for business.
