Baptist Health Hardin announces Walk of Gratitude honoring deceased veterans
ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (Nov. 7, 2025) – Baptist Health Hardin is honored to announce its Walk of Gratitude program, a solemn tribute to veterans who pass during their hospital stay. The Walk of Gratitude provides an opportunity for staff and loved ones to stand in silent recognition of the veteran’s service to our country.
The Walk of Gratitude is held at the request of the veteran’s family. During the walk, a flag is respectfully placed over the veteran as staff and loved ones line the hallway in tribute. The veteran is then escorted for care and preparation before being transported to the funeral home.
This moment of shared quiet honor reflects deep appreciation for the individual’s service and sacrifices.
“Veterans are part of the fabric of our community. They are our neighbors, coworkers, friends and family,” said Baptist Health Hardin President Robert Ramey. “The Walk of Gratitude is a powerful and dignified way to pause and recognize the commitment these individuals have made to our country. It is one of the most meaningful ways we can show respect to those who have served.”
The program reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care, including care that extends to families experiencing loss.
“We are grateful to every veteran who has served,” said Palliative Care Manager Jennifer Jones, RN, who helps organize the Walk of Gratitude. “This simple act of standing together honors their life and reminds their loved ones they are not alone. What we do every day is a labor of love. These extra moments with our veterans and families allow us to show honor and grace for those who gave so much.”
Families of veterans receiving care at Baptist Health Hardin may speak with their care team, a palliative care nurse or a chaplain with the Spiritual Care department to request the Walk of Gratitude.
