Accreditation standards ensure that bariatric surgical patients receive a multidisciplinary program, which improves patient outcomes.

(Paducah, Ky.)  August 2, 2022 Individuals seeking surgical treatment for obesity and its related conditions have a high-quality choice in Paducah. The Baptist Health Paducah bariatric program is now a nationally accredited program that meets the highest standards for patient safety and quality of care.

The program was accredited under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Accreditation standards ensure that bariatric surgical patients receive a multidisciplinary program, not just a surgical procedure, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success. The accredited center offers preoperative and postoperative care designed specifically for their severely obese patients.

"It has been a proud moment achieving our national accreditation,” said Baptist bariatric surgeon Anthony Davis, MD. “Our hospital and team continue to be dedicated toward the treatment of Morbid Obesity and its associated comorbid conditions. Our patients are dedicated to working toward better health. We here at Baptist Health are equally dedicated to providing compassionate and exceptional care for their health goals and I am honored to play a part in their story of health."

Baptist Health Medical Group Bariatric and General Surgery offers minimally-invasive robotic and laparoscopic gastric bypass, adjustable band and vertical sleeve surgical options, as well as medical weight loss options, based on an individual’s need.

The program offers patient resources such as support group meetings. These meetings are held the last Tuesday of every month in the Carson Myre Heart Center Auditorium. There is also a dietician available to patients three days a week at Baptist Health Paducah’s main campus.

To earn accreditation, the bariatric program met essential criteria for staffing, training and facility infrastructure and protocols for care, ensuring its ability to support patients with severe obesity. The center also participates in a national data registry that yields semiannual reports on the quality of its processes and outcomes, identifying opportunities for continuous quality improvement.
