Adopt-A-Unit fund helps feed dedicated Baptist Health Floyd employees

December 29, 2020

The Adopt-A-Unit Fund was established in March 2020 during the initial onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Southern Indiana

NEW ALBANY (Dec. 29, 2020) –  With the surge of the novel coronavirus impacting many more residents in Southern Indiana, employees at Baptist Health Floyd continue to experience stressful days and nights as they battle this disease, caring for patients and protecting the community for almost 10 months.  It’s been challenging for them to face the virus head on every day, knowing the impact this invisible enemy has had, and continues to have, on the lives of so many in the community and throughout the nation.

In an effort to uplift the spirits of the staff members at Baptist Health Floyd, the Floyd Memorial Foundation, along with assistance from many community members and businesses, realized early on that food truly does warm the heart, feeds the soul and boosts the spirit. Thanks to monetary donations for the Foundation’s Adopt-A-Unit Fund, proceeds have been used to purchase meals from local restaurants to provide staff lunches and dinners throughout the week and weekend.  This “soul food” has a significant impact on the well-being of the healthcare staff, not only providing much needed nourishment, but also letting them know that their community supports them during a stressful and critical time in our world.

After caring for patients every day, all day, staff members are inspired and touched by someone, a person, family or business, wanting to take care of them.

When the Adopt-A-Unit Fund was established in March 2020 during the initial onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Southern Indiana, community members and businesses generously donated more than $18,000 that supported the purchase of meals from local restaurants for employees in all departments for a few months.  The Foundation continues to accept donations for the Adopt-A-Unit Fund along with donations of commercially made and packaged baked goods and pastries.
