School clinics offer physicals vaccines for back-to-school

As Paducah and McCracken County schools prepare to open, parents are reminded that school clinics are available during each school day for all back-to-school health needs, ranging from vaccines to physicals.

Baptist Health and Four Rivers Behavioral Health operate walk-in clinics, serving all McCracken County and Paducah public schools every school day.

Nurse practitioners offer care for minor injuries and illnesses, as well as school/sports physicals. “Our goal is to provide convenient, accessible healthcare to meet the needs of busy families and reduce absenteeism, so students and staff don’t have to leave school,” said Chris Roty, Baptist Health Paducah president.

The clinics serve students, staff and families of their school communities. No appointment is needed.

The clinics offer vaccinations, including common pediatric and flu vaccines, as well as the recommended HPV for 11- and 12-year-olds and meningitis for students 11-18. In addition, they participate in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s federally-funded Vaccines for Children program for children whose families meet income criteria.

Baptist Health and Four Rivers started school clinics three years ago. New this year:

  • Full-time clinics are available in all Paducah schools.

  • The Lone Oak clinic has moved into the main Lone Oak Elementary School building’s west wing, with a new outside entrance.

  • The Heath clinic, operating 8 to 10 a.m., has moved into the main middle school building’s north wing.

  • The Reidland clinic hours have changed to 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • The clinics accept all major health insurance plans and bill for co-payments and self-pay patients. For security reasons, no money is collected at the clinics.

  • All students under 18 must have a signed consent form on file in their school clinics. If your child requires care, the clinic will contact the individual on the consent form before providing care. Parents can sign the form at registration or download a copy from school district web sites to complete and send to the school.

  • Phone the clinics for specific information for your school.
