Baptist Health unveils photo gallery focusing on community health success stories
To illustrate the work physicians, nurses and staff do to improve the health of their communities, Baptist Health unveiled a photo gallery focusing on patients whose lives have been changed by those efforts.
LOUISVILLE, KY. (Dec. 5, 2018) – To illustrate the work physicians, nurses and staff do to improve the health of their communities, Baptist Health unveiled a photo gallery focusing on patients whose lives have been changed by those efforts.
Among those featured is John Zeydel of Louisville, a triathlete who found himself sidelined by a heart blockage. After the blockage was corrected, Zeydel looked to Baptist Health Louisville’s Cardiac Rehabilitation program to get him back in the race. Zeydel was on hand at the unveiling to tell his story.
“Improving the health of the communities that we serve could be represented in a pie chart or a bar graph,” said Baptist Health CEO Gerard Colman. “But we’d prefer to measure our success in terms of people and the lives we’ve changed – people like John Zeydel. He is among the eight people that we’re showcasing in our atrium gallery as a reminder of our mission and our vision.”
“The fixing of it was five seconds, but what happens next is the mental, the confidence. It really started here at Baptist having that confidence back,” Zeydel said. “Having people with that positive attitude that believed in me that I could do it, helps you get there faster.”
Each person – and the health program from which they benefited – is also featured in a separate video. The programs include heart health, diabetes prevention, health screenings, breast cancer awareness, physical fitness for students, smoking cessation and opioid education.
“These photos, and the videos, are a vivid reminder for us – especially those of us at the System Services Center – of the wonderful work Baptist Health is doing in our communities.” Colman said to leaders and staff who attended the unveiling ceremony. “We hope that this exhibit will inspire you, and that you will share these images with vendors and visitors to illustrate the meaning of our mission.”
Baptist Health’s mission is to demonstrate the love of Christ by providing and coordinating care and improving health in our communities.
The gallery and video project is tied to the triennial Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) report recently created for each Baptist Health hospital. The reports, written in conjunction with community partners, pinpoint each area’s top health concerns and outline a roadmap to improvement. The reports are available at BaptistHealth.com/community-health.
Baptist Health’s annual community report also zeroes in on the CHNA reports and gallery subjects.
When available, copies of that report will also be posted at BaptistHealth.com/community-health.
