The Baptist Health Paducah bariatric program is now a nationally accredited comprehensive center that meets the highest standards for patient safety and quality of care.
The program was accredited under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Accreditation standards ensure that bariatric surgical patients receive a multidisciplinary program, not just a surgical procedure, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success. The accredited center offers preoperative and postoperative care designed specifically for their severely obese patients.

When they come to us, they are doing what is best for their health. We, in return, strive to offer them the very best care at a place close to home.”
Baptist Health Medical Group Bariatric and General Surgery began offering services in late 2014. Since then, approximately 1,200 people have utilized the medical and surgery options.
The program offers minimally-invasive robotic and laparoscopic gastric bypass, adjustable band and vertical sleeve surgical options, as well as medical weight loss options, based on an individual’s need. There are patient resources, including support groups and dietary consultations, in addition to pre- and post-operative education and free quarterly information sessions.
To earn accreditation, the Baptist program met essential criteria for staffing, training and facility infrastructure and protocols for care, ensuring its ability to support patients with severe obesity. The center also participates in a national data registry that yields semiannual reports on the quality of its processes and outcomes, identifying opportunities for continuous quality improvement.
“Our bariatric program consistently experiences success stories with its patients’ outcomes,” said Chris Roty, president of Baptist Health Paducah. “This accreditation is a success as well. We always want to offer the best for our patients, and this accomplishment proves we are doing just that.”
