Beginning in December of 2017, First Baptist Church of Corbin, began a White Flag Nights Ministry to be a resource to the Corbin area folks who did not have adequate housing or access to a warm place to protect them from the harsh winter conditions.  On nights when temperatures were expected to reach below 29 degrees, the church would fly a white flag outside their life center. The white flag was to let anyone who did not have adequate housing know the church offered vouchers for a night in a local hotel.  Pastor Austin Carty’s and the church’s hope was for this program to be an ongoing and ever expanding ministry.
Baptist Health Corbin pays tribute to Larry Gray, former president of Baptist Health Corbin, and member of First Baptist Church of Corbin with a donation to the White Flag Nights Ministry.
After seven years of growing quality healthcare services at Baptist Health Corbin, Larry W. Gray has been promoted to president of Baptist Health Louisville. Larry’s first day on the job was Monday, June 18.

Under Gray’s leadership as president of Baptist Health Corbin from 2011 to 2018, the 273-bed hospital expanded and enhanced its services, including heart, cancer, women’s care, Neonatal Intensive Care, behavioral health and addiction treatment. The hospital has consistently earned high marks for safety, and the Nursing team achieved the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Pathway to Excellence® designation in August 2017.

Gray, an active volunteer in the community, served two terms on the board for the Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and 12 years on the board of the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky, with two terms as chair. He has been active in Work Ready efforts in Whitley and Knox counties and served as chair of the March of Dimes Walk for two years. He and his wife, Mary Ida, have been involved in several church and community activities, especially around issues of local markets and food insecurity.

Larry and his wife, Mary Ida, will be moving to the Louisville area but will remain in close touch with their children in Lexington and 12 grandkids and their many friends and colleagues in the Corbin area.

Taking the helm at Baptist Health Corbin on an interim basis will be Vice President Anthony W. Powers. Anthony will serve as interim president while the hospital board begins the search for a permanent leader.
