Maiden Alley Cinema and Baptist Health Paducah will present a documentary, “Seven Songs for a Long Life,” at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 20, in the Carson-Myre Heart Center auditorium at 2501 Kentucky Ave.

The documentary features people facing pain, uncertainty and life’s end with humor and song. “The beauty of this film is that it helps us have some tough conversations and make some decisions before we find ourselves in the midst of a crisis,” said Robert Learch, DO.

Dr. Learch and other members of the Baptist Health Paducah advance care planning team will host a panel discussion after the hour-long film on:

• Advance care planning, an ongoing communication process about future medical decisions.  The process reflects the individual’s goals, values and beliefs; it is meant to prepare those who may need to carry out the plan when the individual cannot speak for himself.

• Advance directives, an oral or written document outlining plans for medical treatments and goals of care. Advance directives are typically completed following the advance care planning conversation; they can be shared with one’s healthcare team and updated any time by the individual.

The event and refreshments are free, and free follow-up appointments for advance care planning will be available.
