Baptist Health Paducah senior physical therapist Miranda Scott, PT, DPT, NCS, recently became the only certified neurologic clinical specialist in far western Kentucky.

A neurologic clinical specialist is a physical therapist who has demonstrated advanced knowledge, skills, and experience through specialist credentialing. By having this board certification, the therapist is expected to help promote physical therapy in the neurologic setting, help advance knowledge to the community and other professionals and advance his or her own knowledge as the profession progresses.

This specialty covers any neurological diagnosis that can affect a patient's movement, ability and quality of life, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, Muscular Dystrophy and cerebral palsy.

Scott, who also serves as the clinical education coordinator for physical therapy, has a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Arkansas State University and a doctorate in physical therapy from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She has worked at Baptist for six years.
