Travis C. Sewalls, MD, FACEP, has been named the new Chief Medical Officer for Baptist Health Madisonville effective July 11.

Madisonville, KY. (July 11, 2016): Travis C. Sewalls, MD, FACEP, has been named the new Chief Medical Officer for Baptist Health Madisonville effective July 11.

Dr. Sewalls is an Emergency Medicine physician by training and most recently was the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Lexington, Kentucky where he supported the full spectrum of hospital operations and managed the Clinical Informatics and Telehealth programs.

“We are very fortunate to add Dr. Sewalls to our team,” said hospital President Robert Ramey. “Dr. Sewalls is a proven visionary and assertive strategic thinker with an established record of excellence. His experience in Informatics and Telehealth are vital to our mission, as well as his understanding of hospital operations and excellent patient care.”

Dr. Sewalls replaces Dr. Jim Kolka who had been the Interim CMO at Madisonville for the past year.

“Baptist Health Madisonville is an outstanding opportunity for me professionally,” said Dr. Sewalls. “I usually articulate my reasoning by answering three questions. Why Baptist, why Baptist Health Madisonville and why Madisonville? I believe that Baptist is a very progressive and well-managed health system that is focused on patient outcomes and is always looking for opportunity. Baptist Health Madisonville is comparable in terms of size and complexity to the current work that I have been doing in federal medicine. Finally, Madisonville is similar to my hometown of Winchester, Kentucky which my family and I can relate to very well. This position is a great fit and we are thrilled to be a part of the community of Madisonville and Hopkins County.”

Dr. Sewalls is a graduate of the University of Kentucky where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Doctorate in Medicine. Also, he graduated from the University of Kentucky Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Sewalls is a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
