Teacher and scholar, Forest E. Witcraft said it best, "A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 8, 2016) – Teacher and scholar, Forest E. Witcraft said it best, “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove…but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” A special donor is making their mark in the lives of the children at Baptist Health Louisville’s Child Development Center through a generous donation of nearly $50,000 to construct a new outdoor playground. Installation of the play area started in late October, and will be dedicated on Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m. in honor of eight long-term employees.

The new play area includes the following:

  • A play structure customized for toddlers and one designed for 2 to 5 year olds
  • Climbing wall
  • Sand and water table
  • Calvin the Caterpillar play structure
  • Infant-toddler play hutch

“November is a month symbolized by showing gratitude and being thankful,” said Julie Torzewski, director of the Baptist Health Foundation, Greater Louisville. “We were so blessed to receive such a generous donation from an anonymous donor who sees the value and benefit of young children having access to outdoor play to promote creativity, expressive play and physical activity.” Torzewski added, “In addition to the donation, the donor requested that the playground be dedicated in honor of eight long-term employees of the Center who have dedicated their careers to children.”

The playground will be dedicated in honor of the dedication and tenure of the following staff members:

  • Belinda Motamedi, 35 years of service
  • Shelia Keesee, 30 years of service
  • Barbara Smith, 27 years of service
  • Debonna Dow, 19 years of service
  • Lisa Goff, 19 years of service
  • Cherry Patrum, 17 years of service
  • Mary Lang, 15 years of service
