I'm Ralph Curtis. I live in Lexington, Kentucky with my wife, Wilma. I've got four children, three sons and a daughter, and several grandchildren I'm very proud of. I've played music all of my life.

I toured the United States with my country music tribute band. We're called the Nashville imposters. Then I also do local performances.

I did notice my energy level was kind of going down very slowly, just gradually over weeks and months. I was performing here at Preston Greens and had sung for an hour or close to an hour. My chest just started getting tighter and tighter. And the last two or three songs, I didn't know if I could make it or not. I was just just hoping I could. And my last song, I could just barely breathe the last few words.

And so I got my wife, told her we needed to leave immediately, just leave everything turned on, and we jumped in my truck and drove straight across the street to Baptist Health Hamburg emergency room. Told those receptionists that I thought I was having a heart attack. They came out with a stretcher and wheeled me into the emergency room and started to work. After they stabilized me, we went to Baptist Health Lexington and I went into the cath lab. The very split second that the stent went in, that elephant jumped off of my chest. Just felt like a brand new person immediately. I wouldn't care if they'd put in two or three bars.

Baptist Health Hamburg was caring. I felt like a guest in someone's house, you know, while I was there. I just couldn't ask for anything any better. I mean, was just like I was twenty five years old again.

I couldn't believe it. In fact, I was able to go back on tour just two days later. The best part about Baptist Health Hamburg Emergency Room helping me that particular day was not only me being able to get back to the work that I love, but most importantly the people I love. I really feel like Baptist Health Hamburg Emergency Room saved my life.

Here at Baptist Hamburg, we are a freestanding emergency department, and I think we are equipped to take care of a lot of different complaints. We are able to pivot at a moment's notice and take care of the child that has been injured at a soccer game or the older individual coming from a nursing home with shortness of breath. Many of those complaints don't need a inpatient stay or a full fledged hospital. And I think here, we're seeing patients coming to see us instead of having the need to drive all the way down to the center of Lexington to Baptist Main.

Here at Hamburg, we have a very well equipped emergency department with full radiology suites including plain film CT scans, MRIs, and also ultrasound. We have the ability to take care of patients in this freestanding emergency department as if you were any other emergency department attached to a hospital. So we feel that at this facility, we are very well equipped to take care of most things. Baptist Health, I think, had a vision to be able to take care and reach out to a broader group of people other than just the central Fayette County and surrounding county region.

The location here at Baptist Hamburg is right off of two major interstates and is very closely, located to multiple different other counties that we can offer advanced emergency medicine care and also provide them with outpatient services just down the hall.
