Colonoscopy is a flexible tube with a camera attached that's able to look throughout your colon, specifically looking for polyps or any mass that's concerning for colon cancer. So if I see these polyps or little growths, I take them out. Additionally, I'm looking for anything that's concerning for a mass concerning for cancer. If I see that, a biopsy or get a tissue sample to send to the pathologist to make a diagnosis.

It's important to keep up your screenings primarily to diagnose colon cancer early. Treating colon cancer early leads to better outcomes. If colon cancer goes untreated, it can spread to other parts of your body and lead to death. That is why it's important to catch it as soon as we can.
