US News World Report Names Baptist Health Louisville Number 1 in Louisville Metro Again

Ninth time in ten years that Baptist Health Louisville has been Number 1 or tied for No. 1.

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (July 2, 2021) – Baptist Health Louisville was again named #1 in Metro Louisville –in the 2021-22 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals listings. This is the ninth time in ten years that Baptist Health Louisville has either been Number 1 or tied for No. 1.

“The U.S. News rankings reflect the unrelenting dedication of our physicians, staff and support teams in providing exceptional and compassionate care to our patients. I am proud of the work that we do,” said Gerard Colman, Baptist Health CEO. “We’ve been tested by the pandemic, which has made us more mindful of what’s important and that our mission to serve the needs of our communities has never been more vital.”

Both Baptist Health Louisville and Baptist Health Lexington are also listed as “Recognized in the Bluegrass Region” which encompasses both cities. Baptist Health Lexington ranked #3 in Kentucky and Baptist Health Louisville is #4. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized best regional hospitals based on high performing rankings across multiple areas of care.

For the 2021-22 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 17 procedures and conditions. Last year, U.S. News evaluated only 10 procedures and conditions. Added this year were ratings for back surgery (spinal fusion), heart attack, kidney failure, stroke, diabetes, hip fracture, and pneumonia. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care.

Local Baptist Health hospitals also earned high performing rankings in several adult procedures and conditions:

  • Baptist Health Louisville notched high performing ratings in nine areas: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, colon cancer surgery, COPD, hip replacement, knee replacement, stroke and heart attack.
  • Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana had four areas listed: heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure and lung cancer surgery.

 “This year’s expanded report from U.S. News includes new ratings for important procedures and conditions to help each patient pick the right hospital for the type of care they need,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “Hospitals faced incredible challenges this past year, and the best of them have provided great care throughout the pandemic and continue to offer excellent care today.”

The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.
