Baptist Health Lexington bariatric program earns MBSAQIP accreditation

The hospital is the first MBSAQIP accredited medical weight loss site in the state of Kentucky.

LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 5, 2023) The Baptist Health Lexington bariatric program has achieved a Comprehensive Center with Obesity Medicine Qualification accreditation from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

 

The hospital is the first MBSAQIP accredited medical weight loss site in the state of Kentucky.

 

To earn MBSAQIP accreditation, Baptist Health Lexington and Baptist Health Medical Group Bariatrics underwent an extensive site visit with a review of structure, processes, and clinical outcomes data.

 

This recognition acknowledges dedication to meeting the needs of metabolic and bariatric surgery patients by providing multidisciplinary, high-quality, patient-centered care.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates about 93 million adults in the United States are affected by obesity and that number continues to increase. The disease of obesity increases the risks of morbidity and mortality because of the diseases and conditions that are commonly associated with it, such as type II diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, among other health risks.
