One In Eight Mammotome Breast Biopsy procedure involves the sampling of tiny amounts of tissue, which allows for diagnosis of breast cancer at its earliest, most treatable stages. The devise specifically targets the suspicious areas, using stereotactic (two angles of x-rays) images to guide the probe. Use of this system can often help avoid a surgical biopsy. We were also the first hospital in the Valley with the SiteSelect Large Core Breast Biopsy System. This new, minimally invasive procedure allows the sampling of larger sized suspicious breast lesions while sparing healthy breast tissue, which means less chance of breast disfigurement. Both procedures allow breast tissue samples to be taken for diagnosis in an average of one hour. Patients do no require hospitalization or anesthesia and most people resume normal activity in less than 24 hours! Sentinel Node Biopsy The sentinel node is the lymph node to which breast cancer may initially spread. Because the lymph nodes are arranged in a chain, surgeons who found cancer in any one lymph node frequently removed all of the lymph nodes. Now, using sentinel lymph node mapping, surgeons remove only those affected lymph nodes detected through this procedure. Breast Health Services
