![]() ![]() Welcome and thank you for visiting our website at Phoenix Baptist Hospital’s Residency in Podiatric Medicine & Surgery. Podiatric medicine is one of the most rewarding medical specialties as every patient involves the relief of a painful condition, deformity, or healing of wounds. Our philosophy at Phoenix Baptist Hospital’s Podiatry Program is that we can teach anyone with whom we can have a conversation. Our faculty is energetic and enthusiastic about teaching and learning. We have national lecturers, extensively published researchers, community practitioners that are new to practice as well as those that have been in practice for decades. The background of our faculty is equally as diverse coming from such prestigious programs as The Podiatry Institute, Botsford Hospital, and CCPM currently known as St. Mary’s. This diversity extends into the training of residents and students; pediatrics including the Baja Project, sports medicine and biomechanics, trauma, all surgical areas including extensive rearfoot and ankle reconstruction plus Charcot reconstruction and wound care. Opportunities for research are available and residents are expected to lecture to students on a regular basis. A distinct advantage unique to our residency program is the interdisciplinary medical training in all specialties with strong emphasis on medicine. This program emphasizes integration of general medical principles to the treatment of patients with lower extremity manifestations of disease. The podiatry residents interact extensively with the family medicine residents and faculty which yields a supportive learning environment unique for both residency programs. This aspect of Phoenix Baptist Hospital's PM&S 36 positions our residents to be at the forefront of modern podiatric medicine. The Podiatric Medicine & Surgery Residency Program at Phoenix Baptist Hospital has recently merged with Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital's Residency in Podiatric Medicine completing the 36 month program. Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital provides healthcare for infants, teens, adults, and the elderly of the PIMA, Tohono O' Odham, Maricopa, and other Indian residents of the Gila River and Ak-Chin Indian Reservations. This population has the highest incidence of diabetes in the world. What better facility to be trained in managing the medical co-morbidities of diabetes and the diabetic foot! We at Phoenix Baptist Hospital are very proud of our residency in podiatric medicine & surgery. Great strides have been made in the past two years increasing our number of residents and converting to the PM∓S 36 model. We would like to invite you to visit us at Phoenix Baptist Hospital so you can see for yourself that conversation does lead to learning. Sincerely, Stephen Geller, DPM, FACFAS |
